Harley-Davidson opens new ways to tap market

The ever-increasing fuel price and the possible introduction of a new luxury tax is not standing in the way of the love affair Jakarta's nouveau rich have with big bikes.
Distributor of the U.S.-made Harley-Davidson motorbike Mabua Harley-Davidson (MHD) said that big-time lawyers, politicians and government officials were among the new rich who were lining up to get the latest model of the legendary steel horse.
As a result, the local distributor of Harley-Davidson motorcycles has registered a dramatic increase in the sales of customized bikes in the past three years.
""In 2004, we registered the sale of 242 bikes, an increase from 222 in 2003. For 2005, we expect a rosy year, as by August we had sold 261 bikes, an increase of 73 percent,"" president of MHD Jonnie Rahmat said.
Of the sales, Jonnie said that between 65 percent to 70 percent of buyers were residents of Jakarta. ""And of those up to 65 percent are residents of South Jakarta,"" he said.
As part of its service to the bulk of Harley-Davidson riders and potential buyers in the southern part of Jakarta, MHD recently opened a shop at the newly-constructed Pondok Indah Mall 2 (PIM 2), the extension of the plush Pondok Indah Mall, that serves to sell accessories and gimmicks for one of American's most famous brands.
The retail outlet, the fourth in Jakarta and fifth in the country, sells Harley paraphernalia ranging from apparel such as T-shirts, children's wear and caps to cigarette lighters, all authorized by the U.S. brand owner.
MHD has the goal to operate 20 outlets by the year 2009.
Interested buyers could also place their orders at the shop and in no less than a month a brand new Harley Davidson, which is shipped from a plant in Singapore, could be in their possession.
To evade an extremely high luxury tax for a built-up Harley, the Indonesian distributor ships completely knocked-down bikes from the Singapore plant.
After receiving an order, the U.S. Harley manufacturer in Milwaukee dispatches a completely built-up bike to the Singaporean plant before being disassembled.
Under the present tax regulation, a completely built-up Harley will be a subject to 60 percent customs tax, 70 percent luxury tax, 10 percent value-added tax and 2.5 percent income tax.
Before owners can ride their bikes on the street, they have to pay a 10 percent registration fee to the police.
The government mulled raising value-added tax for luxury goods, cars and big bikes in June. The plan has been met with resistance from car distributors as it will dissuade consumers from buying new vehicles.
The move was to come into effect in tandem with a policy to persuade car owners to shift from low-cost fuel to Pertamax.
The opening of the new retail shop is one among many strategies developed by MHD to broaden the appeal of the Harley Davidson motorbike.
In recent years, MHD has started renting used Harley-Davidson motorcycles for customers interested in riding the famed bike.
""Currently there are five bikes on stand-by for customers who are interested in having a test ride,"" Willy A. Tjondrodiputero, General Manager of MHD said, adding that renting a Harley was similar to a test drive.
The cost of renting a used Harley-Davidson bike ranges between Rp 800,000 and Rp 1.7 million per day, depending on its type.
In the future, MHD will also hold more tours for Harley owners, including trips in the U.S.
The Harley-Davidson enterprise started in Milwaukee in 1901 when William S. Harley, aged 21, drew up plans for a small engine that displaced 7.07 cubic inches (116cc) and had tiny 4-inch flywheels. It was designed for use in a regular pedal-bicycle frame.
Thanks to the World War I, the small enterprise turned into the largest motorcycle manufacturer in the world in 1920, after it provided 20,000 machines to the military forces during the war.
World War I was the first time the motorcycle had been broadly adopted for combat service.

Motorcycle Officer Killed in Crash

The name of a motorcycle officer who died in an accident while escorting a funeral is expected to be released today.

Police say the officer lost control of his motorcycle and crashed while he was escorting a funeral procession headed north on Indiana 67 in Morgan County. No word yet on why the officer lost control, but police said no other vehicle was involved.

All-American Harleys Take Off in Mideast

It may seem incongruous, but in a region rife with anti-American sentiment, the all-American symbol has found a home: Harley-Davidsons are on the rise in the Middle East, even in conservative countries like Saudi Arabia. The hogs’ popularity was marked this month by Lebanon’s first-ever Harley-Davidson tour, which saw some 130 bikers from across the Mideast gather to cruise through the country—women and children included, the Los Angeles Times reports.

“Once you get on a Harley you feel that you are really free and that your spirit is always up high and you're going through the wind,” says one local biker. Most Harley fans in the region have links to America, having lived or studied there, for example, says a dealer. “It’s a part of American culture,” he notes, but in Lebanon, most seem perfectly tolerant of the bikes and their leather-clad riders.

Harley Davidson and Pierce Raise Money for Fallen Firefighters' Families

Given the global recession, everybody is short of money these days but this shouldn't be an impediment for donating a few bucks to charity and thus, sign up in the race for a custom Harley Davidson Fat Boy Firefighter Special Edition motorcycle.

Harley Davidson Motor Company and Pierce Manufacturing have joined forces in a charitable campaign to support the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation (NFFF), an organization dedicated to assisting firefighter families.

The NFFF Full Throttle Support campaign, that has already found 2,000 supporters, allows participants to donate money on NFFF.

FullThrottleSupport.com. By making a donation of at least $10, participants are automatically entered into the race to win a custom Harley Davidson Fat Boy Firefighter Special Edition motorcycle.

Equally, visitors will find special NFFF Full Throttle Support gear including jackets, hats and t-shirts on the Web site that they can purchase.

“We are encouraged by the tremendous response we’ve had during the first part of our campaign,” said Wilson Jones, Oshkosh Corporation executive vice president of Fire & Emergency and president of Pierce Manufacturing.

“It is remarkable to see so many extraordinary people who are willing to support the families of fallen firefighters, many of whom are dependent upon the NFFF for emotional and financial support.”

All the proceeds, including those coming from the sales, will go to the NFFF survivor programs that help families of fallen firefighters make a new life.

Such programs contain education scholarships and/or job training for children and spouses of firefighters as well as trips to the annual firefighter memorial weekend in Emmitsburg, MD.

“The money from this campaign will help us create more and larger scholarships – something we’ve hoped to do for many years,” said Ron Siarnicki, executive director of the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation.

“We owe a lot of thanks to Pierce and Harley-Davidson whose commitment to give back to the firefighting community has gone above and beyond the call of corporate philanthropy.”

So far $59,232 have been raised but the campaign is not over yet.

It was launched in January and will run through April 26. The lucky winner of the custom HD motorbike will be announced in May 2009.

2009 Harley-Davidson Touring Bikes

It would be difficult to exaggerate the importance of the touring market to Harley-Davidson. According to Harley’s statistics, the touring models have led the industry in market share for the touring category 14 consecutive years.

The 2009 Harley-Davidson touring family includes the Road King, Road King Classic, Street Glide, Road Glide, Electra Glide, Electra Glide Classic and Ultra Classic Electra Glide. These bikes appear very similar to the 2008 models, but the changes are actually quite massive.

Harley-Davidson set to bolster dealer sales online

The Milwaukee-based company already draws 140,000 enthusiasts to its content-focused Harley-Davidson.com Web site each week, but it likely will drive a new wave of users with this week's launch of the RoadStore--where customers can browse but not yet buy Harley-Davidson clothes and accessories.

As many brick-and-mortar manufacturers increase their online sales efforts, they're simultaneously struggling with the touchy task of how to divvy up the profits.

But for Harley-Davidson, the decision is clear: all sales leads that come through the corporate Web site will be funneled to the company's 600-plus U.S.-based dealers--and the site will eventually be designed to seamlessly connect dealers to the corporate hub.

"At this point, our dealers are the providers of products and services," said Ken Ostermann, Harley-Davidson's manager of electronic communication. "Our public Web presence is really designed to drive that dealership traffic."

That's a far cry from the muddled plans that have tripped up other companies, such as Levi Strauss, which recently announced intentions to retreat from selling clothes direct online after the holidays, bowing to the pressure of high distribution costs.

Jupiter Communications analyst Mike May said reseller strategies vary among companies, depending on the stakes.

"Some may see the Internet as a huge new opportunity to get closer to customers and widen their margins by selling direct," he said. "Others see the Internet as being, at this point, too small a channel to risk alienating partners in their traditional channels."

To build the RoadStore, Harley partnered with e-commerce software maker Blue Martini--as well as an all-star Internet services team including Andersen Consulting, USWeb/CKS and high-end design boutique VSA Partners --to build a site that lets users peruse 3,000 Harley items from chaps and leather jackets to mufflers and handlebars. The site will open for public buying through a select group of dealers sometime next year, the company said.

The RoadStore will give riders a comprehensive view of what their local dealer may or may not carry and provides dealers with a central catalog of thousands of accessories, Ostermann said. Blue Martini's software eventually will give dealers the ability to target specific buyers with clothes and accessories that suit the type of motorcycle they own.

Thomas McIlhattan, co-owner of Harley-Davidson of Vallejo, in California, said the jury is still out on whether Harley-Davidson's future efforts to refer Web surfers to his shop will improve his sales.

"To not give it a try is to bury your head in the sand," he said. However, McIlhattan said that ultimately many riders want to visit the dealer shops directly, asking: "What does new leather smell like on the Web?"

Ostermann did not comment on whether there are plans to allow riders to configure their own motorcycles on the site.

Although analysts say riding accessories are only a fraction of overall Harley-Davidson sales--about 80 percent of the company's $2 billion in annual revenue comes from the sale of motorcycles--the RoadStore should help the company cross-sell its products and build better customer relationships.

But the overall market for heavyweight motorcycles also has grown 20 percent annually during the past two years, analysts say, providing fertile ground to sustain the accessories market.
To date, Harley-Davidson has done little marketing and depends largely on a base of intensely loyal customers supported by relatively few dealers, Hambrecht & Quist analyst Shawn Milne said in an interview.

"Six hundred distribution points is not overwhelming," he said. "There may be an underserved market."

Milne also noted there are about 200,000 Harley-Davidson credit card users in the company's database--and it could leverage that personal information to target sales or promotions to users. Harley-Davidson customers spend a "great deal of time dreaming about how they can accessorize and personalize their motorcycles," Ostermann said.

"The RoadStore will position us to be flexible and to anticipate customer preferences and drive consumers into dealerships," he said. "This allows them to establish a relationship with a dealer electronically."

Jupiter's May said Harley-Davidson will please its dealers by sending them new business, but he questioned how local shops that carry widely differing inventories will successfully fulfill orders that go through the corporate Web site.

"The costs and quality issues in outsourcing fulfillment to hundreds of dealers across the country is a nightmare in progress," he said.

McIlhattan, who said he doesn't have a computer on his desk, said he hopes the plan works.
"I don't really have a clue [if it will]," he said. "But I'm prepared to see."

NEW 883 IRON

THE HARLEY-Davidson Sportster was introduced in 1957, but I didn’t get a chance to ride it then.

My excuse? I was only one year old, and was too busy lowering the suspension and painting go-faster stripes on my Silver Cross pram. Boy, did that mother go. Mine, that is. Mad, that is.
As for Sportsters, they became the starting point for many legendary choppers of the 1960s, in between being used for championship dirt racing and dare devil stunt riding in the 1970s.
Just ask Evel Knievel, who used them to fling himself over every chasm in sight, often successfully.

Sadly, when Harley-Davidson brought out the Sportster 883 in 2002 as a base model to attract Harley riders who thought that they couldn’t afford to be Harley riders, it didn’t so much have the result of building on that legacy as losing it down the back of the workshop.

It vibrated so much that dentists made a good living setting up stalls all along the route of Harley rallies to replace fillings, the suspension was clunky, the performance sluggish and the brakes poor.

Rather than creating fans for life, it probably had the opposite effect, particularly when they turned up on their pride and joy at Harley-Davidson Owner Group rallies, looked around at the assembled V-Rods and Road Kings, and felt like seven-stone weaklings who had accidentally wandered into the showers at a Mr Universe contest.

Thankfully, in 2004, Harley wised up with a new range, the single-seat 883, the 883 Custom, the 1200R with twin front discs and the 1200 Custom.

It kept the appealingly low price, but got rid of the horrendous vibration by rubber-mounting the engine.

And now Harley has made it even better still, with the new Iron 883 – more responsive handling, a smoother clutch and a carbon-reinforced drive belt for seamless acceleration.
Not that you notice much of these as you walk up to it. What you notice is that someone in Harley has used up all the factory’s black paint in one go, for so stygian is the Iron that you would be well advised not to park it in a dark alley – you’ll never find it again.

And it works. The effect is mean and brooding – just the look to attract would-be Harley riders on a budget, particularly when they climb aboard and realise this is one of those bikes on which you feel instantly at home, helped by those drag-style handlebars and mid-bike footrests and controls.

The result is an upright but alert riding position that makes you both comfortable and aggressive as a rider: powering smoothly away from lights to the song of that glorious V-twin, changing gear by just thinking about it, thanks to a clutch that is light years away from the agricultural Harley devices of old, and hurling yourself into corners with gay abandon and ever-increasing confidence.

In fact, so much was I enjoying it that, although I was only planning to take the bike out for an hour before the forecast heavy rain, five hours later I was still heading down roads just because they looked interesting, or following signposts to places I had never been – like Tildarg and Buckna: places that seemed to have a population of two and a church for each, and which, to paraphrase Dr Johnson, were worth going to see, but not worth seeing.

In the end, I was having so much fun that I stayed out half an hour too long, and got soaked when the downpour finally came.

But with a bike like this, who cares? It is – and I speak as a long-time fan of the Road King – possibly the best Harley yet.

Harley-Davidson to cut jobs

WAUWATOSA, Wis., Jan. 23 (UPI) -- Harley-Davidson Inc. (NYSE:HOG) has announced it will close its Wauwatosa, Wis., plant in 2010, eliminating several hundred jobs.

The Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel reported the plant's closure is part of a restructuring plan that includes the elimination of 1,100 jobs in the next two years.

Plans call for 640 jobs to be cut at the company's facilities in Wisconsin, Harley President and Chief Executive Officer Jim Ziemer told the newspaper. He said 230 of the job cuts will be in non-production positions -- mostly involving salaried personnel, including engineering, administrative and finance departments.

The newspaper reported that about 70 percent of the job reductions will occur this year, with the remainder to be made in 2010.

"These are all very tough decisions, but sometimes we have to go through some pain" to ensure the company's long-term viability, Ziemer said.

Harley-Davidson Inc.

Harley-Davidson Inc. will cut about 85 jobs at its Kansas City motorcycle plant — roughly 8.5 percent of its area work force of about 1,000 — as part of broader cuts the company said Friday it will make because of lower profit and sales.

Company spokesman Bob Klein said that about 80 of the jobs are hourly and that five are nonproduction. The layoffs will occur by May 1.

The cuts are part of a plan to eliminate 1,100 positions at production facilities in Milwaukee, Kansas City and York, Penn., the company said in a Friday release.

Of the 1,100 job cuts, about 800 are hourly production workers and the balance are primarily salaried, nonproduction positions. About 70 percent of the planned layoffs are expected to occur this year.

“We obviously need to make adjustments to address the current volume declines,” Ziemer said in the release. “But we are also determined to do that in a way that will make us more competitive for the long term. Our management group will engage with union leaders, through our partnering relationship, regarding these changes.”

The Milwaukee-based company (NYSE: HOG) announced the job cuts in its earnings report for the fourth quarter and all of 2008.

For the quarter that ended Dec. 31, earnings were $77.8 million, or 34 cents a share, down 58 percent from $186.1 million, or 78 cents a share, a year earlier. Revenue for the quarter was $1.29 billion, down 6.8 percent from $1.39 billion the prior year.

For all of 2008, earnings were $654.7 million, or $2.79 a share, down 30 percent from $933.8 million, or $3.74 a share, in 2007. Revenue for the year was $5.59 billion, down 2.3 percent from $5.73 billion in 2007.

Harley-Davidson is trying to adjust its cost structure to meet 2009 motorcycle volume projections that are lower than the total number of units shipped in 2008. The company expects the volume reduction and changes to operations to result in one-time charges of about $110 million to $140 million over 2009 and 2010. Once completed, ongoing annual savings are expected to be about $60 million to $70 million.

The company expects to ship between 264,00 and 273,000 motorcycles in 2009, down from shipments of 303,479 units in 2008. The 2008 total was 8.2 percent lower than the shipment totals of 330,619 units in 2007.

Harley-Davidson Posts 37% Drop in Net, Announces More Job Cuts

First-quarter net income for the Milwaukee-based company tumbled 37% amid charges and tax changes, but the company reaffirmed its target for motorcycle shipments for the year. Harley's shares were up 8.1% to $18.52 in Thursday afternoon trading on the New York Stock Exchange.
Weak consumer spending and troubled credit markets have pinched demand for big-ticket items, prompting Harley-Davidson to trim its dividend and lay off workers. It has been curtailing production for about a year and faces liquidity problems at its financial unit.

The company reported first-quarter net income of $117.3 million, or 50 cents a share, down from $187.6 million, or 79 cents, a year earlier. The latest results included $57.4 million in charges. Revenue slipped 1.2% to $1.3 billion as global retail motorcycle sales dropped 12%.
Analysts expected earnings, excluding items, of 51 cents a share on revenue of $1.3 billion, according to Thomson Reuters.

The company said Thursday it would cut another 300 to 400 hourly production jobs over the next two years in addition to the 1,100 job cuts it announced in January, producing some $120 million to $150 million in charges through 2010. The company expects to save up to $25 million this year and as much as $55 million in 2010.

U.S. sales dropped 9.7%, a narrower decline than the prior two quarters, a development that "mildly encouraged" the company, said Chief Executive Jim Ziemer. "We remain cautious and continue to expect 2009 to be an extremely challenging business environment," he said in a statement.

The company also picked up market share in the down market, Chief Financial Officer Tom Bergmann said in a conference call with investors. While overall U.S. sales of larger motorcycles tumbled 22%, Harley's share of that market rose to 57.8%, up eight percentage points from a year earlier, he said.

Operating income at the financial-services segment, roiled by the credit-market woes, dropped 68% amid $25.7 million in write-downs.

Man charged with having stolen Harley-Davidson

A State Park Place man faces a charge of possessing a stolen vehicle after police said he was riding a Harley-Davidson motorcycle that was stolen from a Caseyville bar.

Craig Mims, 30, 2903 Arlington Drive, Collinsville, rode the 2003 Heritage Softail Harley-Davidson motorcycle to his parents' house after it was stolen from Caseyville Inn on Friday at 10 p.m., according to police.

Mims was charged Saturday and his bail was set at $40,000. He could face up to seven years in prison if he is convicted.

H-D site celebrates Hispanic riders

Dedicated to “Harlistas”, the Motor Company’s term for Latino Harley-Davidson enthusiasts, the new section allows Hispanic riders to share their personal stories, photographs and videos of their motorcycle lifestyles. Some of the stories will be featured in an upcoming documentary produced by Harley-Davidson.

“There is a longstanding history between Hispanics and Harley-Davidson and we want to celebrate it,” says Karina Jaramillo-Saa, manager of market outreach for Harley-Davidson Motor Company. “We are very excited about our Harlista site and can't wait to share in the spirit of our riders and see their wonderful experiences.”

The new section, located at http://www.harley-davidson.com/harlistas, also includes a listing of Harlista events such as the Latin American Motorcycle Association’s (LAMA) national rally.

“Harlistas share in the pride and passion of Harley-Davidson,” says Mario Nieves, president of LAMA. “Riders come from all walks of life. From Central to South America, the Caribbean and North America, Harlistas share a rich and proud history. This centralized online community gives us a space to share in that passion.”

Harley-Davidson has previously been a supporter of LAMA as well as the Latin Billboard Music Awards, Lowrider Tours and the Fiesta Broadway celebration in Los Angeles.

Wife stabs husband over Harley: Police

A man reported that his wife, enraged about his new Harley-Davidson motorcycle, attacked him in his northeast-side home Tuesday, slashing and stabbing his arm.

Police were called to the stabbing in the 7300 block of Chivington Drive, near East State Boulevard and Maplecrest Road, about 8:45 p.m.

The victim told officers his wife came to his house and attacked him with a steak knife. She was angry about his recent purchase of a Harley-Davidson motorcycle and accused him of trying to pick up “Harley women,” the report said.

He was treated at a hospital for cuts to his arm. His wife, Lisa Barnett, 45, was arrested Thursday on preliminary charges of battery and domestic battery.

Harley-Davidson gets new Chairman, Board of Directors members

Harley-Davidson, Inc. today held its annual shareholder meeting at the Harley-Davidson Museum. Jim Ziemer, retiring Chief Executive Officer of Harley-Davidson, Inc., provided an update on business progress to more than 500 shareholders in attendance.

"We take great pride in the heritage of our company," Ziemer said. "And in the context of today's economic environment, we're especially proud of the fundamental durability of Harley-Davidson and the remarkable resilience that our people have demonstrated repeatedly over the past 106 years."

During today's meeting, the Company announced that the Harley-Davidson Board of Directors has elected current Director Barry Allen as Chairman of the Board, effective today. Allen, 62, succeeds Jeffrey Bleustein, who did not stand for re-election. Bleustein, 69, was Chairman for the past 11 years and a member of the Harley-Davidson Board for 13 years. He retired as CEO of Harley-Davidson, Inc. in 2005. Allen, a 35-year telecommunications executive, currently serves as Senior Advisor to Providence Equity Partners as well as President of Allen Enterprises. Allen has been a member of the Harley-Davidson Board for 17 years.

"On behalf of the entire Board and the Company's shareholders, we thank Jeff for his commitment and many contributions to Harley-Davidson over the years," said Allen. "It is a true honor to follow him as Chairman of this great company."

Shareholders elected four directors at the meeting. Elected as directors to serve until the 2012 annual meeting of shareholders were Martha Brooks, who is new to the Board; and returning directors Don James, Jim Norling and Jim Ziemer. Brooks has been President and Chief Operating Officer of Novelis Inc. since 2007, and recently announced plans to retire from Novelis in early May. Brooks is also a director of International Paper Company.

The Board of Directors approved a cash dividend of $0.10 per share for the second quarter of 2009 to be payable June 19, 2009 to holders of record of the Company's common stock on June 4, 2009.

Shareholders ratified Ernst & Young as the Company's auditor for 2009; and approved the Harley-Davidson, Inc. 2009 incentive stock plan. Shareholders also approved a non-binding shareholder proposal to reorganize the Board of Directors into one Class, elected annually. The Company said the Board would consider the matter at an upcoming meeting.

Presiding over his last meeting as CEO, Jim Ziemer reflected on his 40-year career at Harley-Davidson and introduced to shareholders Keith Wandell, who will succeed him as President and CEO on May 1, 2009. "Leading this company has been a true privilege," said Ziemer. "I've seen many remarkable things over those 40 years. Harley-Davidson has grown from a company that made only 20 thousand motorcycles a year, to become one of the world's leading brands. I have great conviction that Harley-Davidson will emerge from the current downturn strongly positioned for the future."

2009 Custom Vehicle Operations

The 2009 model year marks the 10th anniversary of the Harley-Davidson CVO program. An effort that began a decade ago as a response to rider requests for higher spec factory custom motorcycles has evolved into the top class of its industry, proving that production volume is really the only limit when it comes to making Harley-Davidson CVO motorcycles.

“Features like bigger engines, exclusive accessories and custom paint and colours, combined with limited production quantities make the Harley-Davidson CVO motorcycles truly unique and inspirational,” said Matt Levatich, Harley-Davidson Vice President and General Manager, Parts & Accessories and CVO. “The CVO bikes were introduced to meet customer desires and they have fulfilled our riders’ ultimate dreams with miles of memories and great riding for a decade. We expect the unique CVO experience to continue for years to come.”

The Fat Bob is a first-time CVO offering, while the Softail Springer and Ultra Classic Electra Glide all enjoy a history in the program. The CVO bikes are based on Harley-Davidson factory models, but are then taken to a new level of customisation with an abundance of Harley-Davidson Genuine Motor Accessories and unique, sumptuous paint schemes.

Arlen Ness bike to be raffled off for Children's Care.

Sioux Falls, SD - Craig Betz of California was a longtime motorcyclist and a new member of the international motorcycle group Hamsters, USA. Last fall, shortly after being inducted into the group at the 2008 Sturgis Rally, Betz lost his battle with cancer. His most beloved possession was arguably his custom Arlen Ness Speed Liner motorcycle, built by world-famous bike builder Arlen Ness.

As part of Craig’s legacy, his sister Cecily Betz donated his motorcycle as a fundraiser for the non-profit organization Children’s Care Hospital & School, which serves children with special healthcare and educational needs. Children’s Care of Rapid City is located in the foothills of the Black Hills, just 30 miles from Sturgis.

Raffle tickets are available now for $25 at www.biketickets.com. The drawing will be held at the Hamsters, USA annual banquet during the Sturgis Rally on August 3, 2009. The winner will be notified by phone, and the bike will be signed for the winner by Arlen Ness and his son, Cory, and his grandson, Zack, both of who are also custom bike builders. The 2006 Arlen Ness Speed Liner has a 124 cubic inch S&S motor and Baker 6-speed transmission.

Hamsters, USA spokesman Grady Pfeiffer says the group is known for their big hearts when it comes to children. “We are really pleased that Craig and Cecily chose to remember special kids through the Hamsters, USA organization and Children’s Care. This is a really nice testament to who Craig was.”

Children’s Care of Rapid City served over 1,200 children last year. It is affiliated with Children’s Care Hospital & School, based in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. Children’s Care is a private, independent, non-profit organization with a mission to help children with special needs reach their best-possible potential. Funds raised through the raffle will provide physical, occupational, and speech therapies, plus special educational and psychological services. The organization as a whole served over 2,600 children last year.

press releases harley davidson

SUNNYVALE, Calif. - May 12, 2008 - Fortinet® - the pioneer and leading provider of unified threat management (UTM) solutions - today announced that it is providing UTM functionality to more than 200 independently owned Harley-Davidson dealerships located throughout the United States.

Fortinet appliances including FortiGate™-50, FortiGate-60 and FortiGate-60B multi-threat security appliances are helping to provide firewall, antivirus, intrusion prevention (IPS) and Web filtering functionality to protect networks.

Fortinet's FortiGate-500A appliance provides virtual private network (VPN) connectivity between multiple computer networks. The FortiGate appliances allow for secure VPN connectivity between multiple stores and locations and enable employees to connect to the Internet and intranet. To help protect the network against unwanted activity, FortiGate appliances are used for firewall, antivirus, IPS functionality and Web filtering functionality to limit viewable Websites.

Harley-Davidson Dealer Systems also use Fortinet's FortiManager-400A as the centralized management platform for the Fortinet security infrastructure.

"Fortinet's FortiGate systems provide an ideal combination of performance and security for Harley-Davidson Dealership Systems," said Karl Soderlund, vice president of Americas sales and business development for Fortinet.

Fortinet's FortiGate systems are ASIC-accelerated security appliances that integrate essential security applications such as antivirus, firewall, VPN, intrusion prevention, Web filtering, anti-spam and traffic shaping. All FortiGate systems are kept up to date automatically by Fortinet's FortiGuard Network, which helps ensure protection against the most damaging, content-based threats from email and Web traffic such as viruses, worms, intrusions, other unwanted network traffic and more - around the clock and around the world. FortiGate systems are centrally managed by Fortinet's FortiManager appliances which minimize the administrative effort required to deploy, configure, monitor and maintain the full range of network protection services provided by Fortinet products.

Harley Davidson Jackets

Armed Forces during World War II.

I will focus on Harley Jackets.

It is like any other activity, when you first start you will get sore until the appropriate muscles develop and adapt.

How much can you afford to spend when you find a motorcycle for sale.

By the end of 1905 the HD Company was not only selling motorcycles, but also motorcycle motors, marine motors, reversible propellers and float feed carburetors.

You can get into something like Harley Davidson Jackets if you can do anything along the lines of this and quite a few other things.

This type of Harley Jackets is excellent if your are part of the Harley Davidson Jackets community.

At the end of the day the decision is yours entirely.

Sorry, but Im rather quick tempered. A total of 50 motorcycles were produced in 1906.

They do sound good with a deep throaty exhaust but as far as Im concerned thats all they have going for them.

The female population of harley riders has significantly increased during the past two decades.

Proper care should be taken to preserve and protect these articles, especially if the wearer is a dedicated rider who rides in any weather.

No matter where in the world you go, HOG members can always feel at home when they attend hog meetings and events.

Running out of oil out in the middle of nowhere will definitely mean costly engine repair or even replacement.

Here we have the least important things you need to know when it comes to Harley Jackets. If you are touring, carry a tire gauge and check it daily.

A new line of street bikes were introduced in 1996, including the Lightning S1 motorcycle which was voted "Hooligan Bike of the Year" by Cycle World Magazine.

Pierce and Harley-Davidson Celebrate Preliminary Results to NFFF Full Throttle Support Campaign

Pierce and Harley-Davidson Celebrate Preliminary Results to NFFF Full Throttle Support Campaign

Individuals Have Until April 25 to Donate to the NFFF and Enter Sweepstakes for Custom Harley-Davidson Fat Boy

APPLETON, Wis.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Pierce Manufacturing Inc., an Oshkosh Corporation (NYSE: OSK) company, and Harley-Davidson Motor Company (NYSE: HOG), the only major U.S.-based motorcycle manufacturer, announced that, to date, participants in the NFFF Full Throttle Support campaign have raised $100,000 for the National Fallen Fighters Foundation (NFFF). Surrounded by attendees at the Fire Department Instructors Conference (FDIC) in Indianapolis, executives from the two companies presented a check for the money that was raised by those who have entered a sweepstakes to win a custom, one-of-a-kind Harley-Davidson® Fat Boy® Firefighter Special Edition motorcycle. Individuals can still donate and enter the sweepstakes at http://NFFF.FullThrottleSupport.com as the program runs through midnight on April 25, coinciding with the final hours of FDIC.

"The enthusiasm for the Full Throttle Support campaign has been inspiring, and we are so proud to be able to present to NFFF a check for $100,000 before the program is even over,” said Wilson Jones, Oshkosh Corporation executive vice president and president Fire & Emergency. “Since the campaign launched in January, people around the country have stepped forward to support family members of fallen firefighters and the firefighting community in general.”
In keeping with the Pierce tradition of giving back to the firefighting community, Connie Stellmacher, Oshkosh Corporation Foundation vice president, presented a second check to the NFFF for $25,000 on behalf of the Foundation. Created in 1960, the Oshkosh Corporation Foundation is dedicated to supporting charitable nonprofit organizations that improve and enhance the quality of life. The Foundation focuses its efforts in communities in which Oshkosh employees work and live, and also supports organizations directly related to the corporation’s businesses.

FDIC attendees can see the grand-prize motorcycle by visiting the Pierce Manufacturing booth, number 9404. In addition, kiosks are set up throughout the Lucas Oil Stadium for donations and sweepstakes entries. Attendees also have the opportunity to purchase limited-edition, Pierce and Harley-Davidson Full Throttle Support merchandise including jackets, hats and t-shirts. All profits from this merchandise also benefit the NFFF.

The winner of the custom Harley will be randomly selected following FDIC and announced at a special ceremony in Washington, D.C., on May 21.

No purchase/donation necessary to enter. Age for eligibility is subject to entrant’s state law. Complete rules for entering and for eligibility are available at http://NFFF.FullThrottleSupport.com. Employees of Oshkosh Corporation, Pierce Manufacturing, the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation, and their families are not eligible for the sweepstakes. Sweepstakes void where restricted or prohibited by law.
